Review of space charge measurement systems: acoustic, thermal and optical methods

2016

In the last decade, remarkable developments have concerned the methods of space charge measurement in the field of insulation systems diagnostic. In particular, methods based on acoustic and thermal phenomena have been largely used. The present review provides a broad overview on the different techniques used describing, for each of them, the working principle, the main features and the most relevant applications. Further details are provided for the Pulsed Electro-Acoustic (PEA) method, as it seems to be the most used. This article provides more details on its historical evolution, showing evidence for its technological limits and taking into consideration the advantages and drawn from the…

Sengenyadance of theDigocommunity: Documentation of social context, music transcriptions and acoustic measurements of selected instruments

2015

ABSTRACTThis paper documents social and cultural aspects of Sengenya music which is practiced by Digo community (from the coast region in Kenya). Specifically the paper addresses (a) Background and Regional (Country) Context, (b) Social Context and Description of Sengenya Music, (c) Melodic transcriptions of Chivoti melodies, rhythmic transcriptions of the Six Drum Rhythms, and (d) Acoustic Measurement of selected chivoti Instruments and pitch registers of the drums used to accompany the dance. While there has been some documentation (Zake 1986, Darkwa 1991, Nyakiti 2007) of general social /cultural aspects of the Digo people (including other Coastal communities), scanty information exists …

Optical pulling and pushing forces in bilayer PT-symmetric structures

2018

Photons are massless, yet can exert force on small particles. This $r\phantom{\rule{0}{0ex}}a\phantom{\rule{0}{0ex}}d\phantom{\rule{0}{0ex}}i\phantom{\rule{0}{0ex}}a\phantom{\rule{0}{0ex}}t\phantom{\rule{0}{0ex}}i\phantom{\rule{0}{0ex}}o\phantom{\rule{0}{0ex}}n$ $p\phantom{\rule{0}{0ex}}r\phantom{\rule{0}{0ex}}e\phantom{\rule{0}{0ex}}s\phantom{\rule{0}{0ex}}s\phantom{\rule{0}{0ex}}u\phantom{\rule{0}{0ex}}r\phantom{\rule{0}{0ex}}e$, though discussed by Kepler, still needs investigation for modern systems. This study reveals that the optical force exerted on a parity-time-symmetric bilayer with balanced gain and loss can be $a\phantom{\rule{0}{0ex}}s\phantom{\rule{0}{0ex}}y\phantom{\rule{0}{0…
